About Community Knowledge Centers for Women (WCKC)
This project comes in line with the Royal Directives issued by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to hold the Omani Woman Symposium at Saih Al-Makarim, in the Wilayat of Sohar, during the period from 17 to 19 October 2009. His Majesty the Sultan underlined the important role carried out by the Omani woman in building the civilization and contributing to the sustainable development.
In keeping with the royal vision of His Majesty, MTC sought to co-operate with all the concerned institutions, so as to establish and create the Community Knowledge Centers for Woman to be spread across the different regions of the Sultanate. These Centers aim to train woman in the area of information technology to enable her to actively participate in building Oman Digital Society.
Considered one of the most important pillars upon which the Community IT Training Programme (CITT) is built, the CKC programme for Women contributes to developing and enhancing the capacities and skills of Omani women in handling digital technology, interacting with eGovernment services, and granting citizens the opportunity to reach broader horizons in the area of information technology.
This orientation comes within the context of the efforts exerted by MTC in partnership with the different government, private and civil institutions, with the goal to offer IT training to all strata of society. This in turn provides training opportunities, helps women to become acquainted with the IT sector, and enables them to familiarize themselves with the computer and handle the internet, in addition to using or benefiting from the eGovernment services.
