Main Goal of the Project:
- Estimate the contribution of the digital economy to the GDP based on 2023 data.
Key Indicators Provided by the Survey:
- The percentage contribution of the digital economy to GDP.
- Added value of telecommunications activities.
- Added value of information technology activities.
- Average number of employees in digital economy establishments targeted by the survey.
- Average expenditure on salaries and wages for employees in targeted establishments.
- Operational and transfer expenditures of targeted digital economy establishments.
- Investment value in assets by targeted digital economy establishments.
- Revenue generated by targeted digital economy establishments.
Target Group and Sample Size:
The survey targets, in its first cycle, establishments operating in telecommunications and information technology activities, and financial and insurance services provided exclusively digitally. It includes establishments of various sizes (large, medium, small, and micro) across all governorates of the Sultanate. The sample size consists of approximately 1,300 establishments.
Data Collection Mechanism:
The survey team will collect data from the sampled establishments using the following methods:
- Telephone calls via the designated call center.
- Providing establishments with a self-completion link.
- Field visits.
Data Collection Period:
Fieldwork for this survey will be conducted from January to May 2025.
Project Implementation Methodology:
The project is being implemented in collaboration between the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology and the National Centre for Statistics and Information. Fieldwork has been assigned to Target for Development and Investment Company, an Omani company specializing in field surveys, data collection and analysis.
Data Confidentiality:
All individual data collected through this survey are confidential under the provisions of the Statistics Law issued by Royal Decree No. 55/2019. These data are aggregated for publication and cannot be accessed by any individual or government/non-government entity for purposes other than statistical analysis.
