In line with Oman Vision 2040, which places information and communication technology as one of the enablers and stimulants for the productive and service economic sectors, the government of the Sultanate of Oman has adopted the National Digital Economy Program, which represents the strategic direction for building a prosperous digital economy that effectively contributes to GDP and serves as a continuation of the digitization strategies in the Sultanate, beginning with the Digital Oman Strategy in 2003 and the National Broadband Strategy in 2014. The National Digital Economy Program aims to double the digital economy's contribution to GDP from 2% in 2021 to 10% by 2040. In addition, the program targets advancing the Sultanate's position globally in various digital economy indicators monitored by Oman Vision 2040, such as the e-Government Development Index and the Network Readiness Index.

The National Digital Economy Program includes a set of medium-term executive programs such as the Government Digital Transformation Program, the Infrastructure Program, the Digital Industry Program, the E-Commerce Program, the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Digital Technologies Program, and the Space Program.
