G-Cloud
Overview
Cloud Computing refers to sourcing information and communications technology services over the Internet on a pay-as-you-go basis. In the last few years, the topics of cloud computing and software as a service (SaaS) have dominated the IT landscape. For citizens, SaaS—applications in the cloud—translates into a more connected world where they can access their data and information at virtually any time from just about anywhere. For the public sector, SaaS provides compelling benefits, from improved worker productivity to faster delivery of new services.
As a strategic move to get the benefit of Cloud technology to country of Oman, MTC initiated the project G-Cloud.
G-Cloud is the shared IT infrastructure established to serve IT requirements of MTC and other government entities.
Enabling Government eservices is one of the MTC visions. The major challenge faced by MTC and ministries in achieving the E-services goal is the IT infrastructure readiness and IT resource scarcity. G-Cloud project is initiated by MTC to facilitate government entities in achieving their E-services goal by providing shared IT infrastructure.
