MTCIT organizes Huawei regional ICT competition 2022

Coinciding with the selection of Muscat as a digital Arab capital 2022, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, represented by the Directorate General of Sector Stimulation and Future Skills, organized today, Wednesday, in cooperation with Huawei-Oman, and in partnership with the Ministry of Labour and Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel), the Huawei Regional ICT Competition 2022.The Competition is  Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Saeed bin Hamad Al-Rubaie, President of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, with the participation of 11 countries from the Middle East and Asia: Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Kazakhstan.

Empowering capabilities

 

The opening ceremony began with a speech delivered by Fahd bin Sultan Al-Abri, Director General of the Directorate General of Sector Stimulation and Future skills, in which he said: "The local competition was launched in its sixth edition last August, and is dedicated to university and college students.Moreover it aims to enhance their competencies and upskill them in various fields of information technology."

Al-Abri added: "Through  "Makeen", the Ministry seeks with its strategic partners to nurture and adopt young talents in the ICT sector, provide more opportunities to participate in local and regional competitions and qualification programs.Furthermore,it provides the market with the necessary competencies to contribute to building a knowledge-based digital economy.

Goals of the compitition

The competition aims to motivate youth and prepare ICT leaders to contribute to achieving digital transformation in the participating countries, developing young talents, refining their skills in the field of ICT and improving the business environment. This year's competition focused on new technologies in the fields of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data storage, big data, security, wireless local area network and enhancing communication among talented young people in the region with their colleagues from around the world.

It is worth noting that the teams participating in the regional finals include 45 students representing the participating countries and were nominated from among more than 19,000 students from 472 universities and colleges from Asian and Middle Eastern countries.
