The Information Technology Authority (ITA) organized the seventh session of the community participation discussion yesterday morning, in the Sas Center for Mobile Apps Development, on the economic and commercial opportunities available in the Sultanate for the establishment of startups in the technologies of the fourthth Industrial Revolution with the presence of Dr. Salim bin Sultan AlRuzaiqi, CEO of ITA , Dr. Khalid Altahhan, CEO of Blockchain Oman Solutions & Services, Omar Alabd, Microsoft Technology Partner Strategist , and Khalid AlHuraibi, CEO, Impact.
The session discussed three main topics: economic and commercial opportunities presented by the fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, Omani experiences in the field of the fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and the supporting commercial and investment environment, and ideas and solutions to make a quantum leap in establishing leading Omani business in emerging new technologies.
During the session, Dr. Salim AlRuzaiqi said: "The Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies started to invade the world and we have to adopt these technologies to benefit from them. We conduct this session to get prepare and understand how the future will be shaped under the fourth Industrial Revolution and its repercussions on all aspects of life.” “
“Opportunities are available both in the local and regional markets, and young people can innovate solutions that are applicable anywhere. It is important to establish a connection with young innovators to produce digital applications and solutions for the world,” he further added.
Omar Al-Abd said: "The Fourth Industrial Revolution is currently entering all fields. We will be ready for it if we start right. In order to benefit from the opportunities offered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, young people must research and think about some of the problems that hinder society development, and then embark on creating innovative solutions.”
"The data is the backbone of the fourth Industrial Revolution and in the Arab region we can achieve a competitive advantage by exploiting the opportunities offered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution because we produce huge amounts of data,” explained Khalid Alhuraibi.
In addition, Dr. Khalid AlTahhan said "the preparation for the Fourth Industrial Revolution requires 2 things: the education should associate young people with the fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and the second thing is to build on the current available skill set of developers and IT talents.
“we have to be proactive in capacity building as the opportunities offered by the fourth Industrial Revolution are greater today, but tomorrow, they will be less, so we have to grasp these opportunities, he went on.
The session was concluded by taking the audience suggestions and idea to help the sultanate making a quantum leap in the various areas of the fourth Industrial revolution.
Besides the open discussion session, the audience toured the accompanying exhibition which was held to showcase experiences and innovations of Omani Tech startups in industry 4.0 technologies with the participation of (Innotech), Innovation Factory, Impact, Estrlab (Engineering solutions and Technology Research Lap) and the Engineering Village.
The session aimed to take the public opinion in developing commercial and investment environment to be attractive to the emergence and establishment of businesses in the industry 4.0 technologies, in addition to encouraging Omani entrepreneurs to start commercial activities in the field of Industry 4.0 technologies. It also aimed to discuss the challenges that hinder the establishment of successful commercial projects in the field of industry 4.0 technologies and Highlight the experiences of Omani innovators and entrepreneurs in the field and benefit from their suggestions to overcome the obstacles they face.
It is worth to mention that #Shorkum is an Arabic word that means “your opinion” and it is commonly used among the Arab communities to ask for an opinion or wise point of views on certain life related topics. From this concept, #Shorkum initiative came out.
It is a communication and community consultation initiative created by the Information Technology Authority (ITA) to reinforce the eParticipation. It includes a set of channels and platforms to facilitate the communication between the ITA officials and various social segments, who are interested and specialized in the IT field, either face-to-face or online. Through this initiative, a number of discussion sessions were held to know the audience’s suggestions and opinions regarding the ITA’s plans and projects. The implementation of community eParticipation in all the ITA’s social media channels is part of this initiative which aims at delivering the information to the community members easily and benefit from their ideas and suggestions in plan-making, projects development and decision-making.
